What's Happening in Dublin this weekend (Oct 4th) - Free Events

Autumn walks, mountain hikes, museum nights and local stories.

Hey all,

The city (and the hills) are buzzing this week with nature walks, old stories, music, food, and a few flamingos thrown in for good measure.

Here’s a quick look at what’s happening:

  • Dead Zoo Late Night – Specimen spotlight & fun facts

  • Harvest Food Fair – Cosy vibes in Naul at TSEAC

  • Dublin Mountains Festival – Free events all week

  • Sheriff Street in the 80s – Powerful photo story

Late Night Opening: Dead Zoo Specimen Spotlight

📍 National Museum at Collins Barracks
📅 Thurs, Oct 2 | 6pm–7:30pm
Drop into the newly opened Dead Zoo Lab for a closer look at flamingos, fossils, beetles, Blashkas and more. The curators will be on hand with fun facts and behind-the-scenes stories. No booking needed, but dress for queues and weather, it is October after all

TSEAC Harvest Food Fair

📍 Piper’s Garden, The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre, Naul
📅 Sat, Oct 5 | 11am–4pm
An autumnal foodies day out – with live music, artisan stalls, local producers, and warm seasonal dishes. Expect sourdough, Irish cheeses, jams, soups, pumpkin bakes and cosy vibes in a lovely garden setting.
Tote bag optional. Appetite required.

Dublin Mountains Festival

📍 Various Locations | Oct 1–11
A week of outdoor events, all free to join:

  • Sat, Oct 4 – Nature Workshop for parents/guardians (Naas)

  • Sat, Oct 4 – Dog training workshop (Jobstown Park)

  • Sun, Oct 5 – Hike to watch the Irish Open Slalom (Shankill–Kilternan)

Working-Class Lives: Sheriff Street in the 80s

📍 Opens Oct 3 @ 3:30pm | Runs to Oct 6
📅 Charleville Mall Library
Photographer Colm Pierce shares striking images of 1980s life on Sheriff Street. These black-and-white glimpses of family, community, and resilience offer an emotional look into a side of Dublin often overlooked.

This event is part of the Dublin Festival of History

The Head on Yer Man – Walking Tour with Mick Kenny

📍 Starts at Luke Kelly Bridge, Ballybough
📅 Sat, Oct 4 | 11am–12:15pm
75 minutes of stories, music and history through Ballybough and the North Strand. From Luke Kelly to Seán O’Casey, Bram Stoker to Brendan Behan — Mick Kenny brings the characters of the area to life.

🎃 Monster Mash Charity Night – Support DCM’s Minibus Campaign
📍 The Waterloo House, Thursday, Oct 23 @ 7pm
Join the Dublin Central Mission for a Halloween-themed night with prizes, finger food, and costume madness — all for a good cause. Tickets are €20, and all proceeds go toward funding a minibus to support their day programme clients.
