Hey all,
There is a very creative Dublin feel to this week - hands-on art, a bit of opera, a fascinating slice of city history and some live music to finish the weekend properly.
It is a nice mix of family-friendly bits and genuinely interesting events for adults too. A few need booking, so do not leave it until you are standing outside the venue looking hopeful.
Also, at least two of these are outdoors, which means the Irish weather has been formally invited to get involved. Plan accordingly.

Cool for the Summer: Visual Arts Workshop
Location: Ballyfermot Library, Dublin 10
Date & Time: Tuesday at 11am
A colourful, hands-on workshop with children's book illustrator Débora Adachi, designed for children aged three to six and their families.
Expect collage, colouring and plenty of imagination as the little ones create their own 3D summer artwork. Children need to bring an adult along, and booking with the library is recommended.
Opera in the Open: Verdi Gala
Location: Wood Quay Amphitheatre, Dublin 8
Date & Time: Thursday, 1pm-2pm
A free lunchtime opera in the middle of the city, which is a fairly strong way to make your Thursday feel more cultured than usual.
This is the final performance in Dublin City Council's short summer series, celebrating the work of Giuseppe Verdi. Bring a cushion, a blanket or a camping chair if you want to get properly comfortable.
Maud Gonne and the Patriotic Children's Treat
Location: Charleville Mall Library, North Strand
Date & Time: Saturday at 2:30pm
A brilliant bit of Dublin history that you probably did not get in school. Historian Dr James Curry looks at Maud Gonne and the huge children's event organised in response to Queen Victoria's visit in 1900.
The talk has been rescheduled for this Saturday. Check with Charleville Mall Library before heading over, just to make sure there is still space.
Drawing with Thread: Free-Motion Embroidery
Location: Matheson Creativity Hub at IMMA, Kilmainham
Date & Time: Saturday 11am-4:30pm and Sunday 1pm-5:30pm
A two-day creative workshop with artist Ciara O'Connor covering free-motion embroidery, hand stitch and raw-edged appliqué.
It sounds technical, but the whole point is to give you the basics and enough one-to-one guidance to start making your own thread drawings. It is free, but you will need to book your place.
Roots in Tune: Music in the Courtyard
Location: IMMA Courtyard, Royal Hospital Kilmainham
Date & Time: Sunday from 2pm
Traditional musicians and dancers from different nationalities come together for a free afternoon performance in IMMA's courtyard.
Expect tunes and dances from around the world, with the audience invited to join in. It is drop-in, relaxed and outdoors - a very solid Sunday plan if the weather behaves itself.
