What's Happening in Dublin this weekend (Feb 26th) - Free Events

It's starting to sound like spring

New week, new plans

We’re nearly at March (how??), and if your “new year, new me” energy is still flickering away somewhere… this might be the weekend to reignite it.

From beginner hikes and revolutionary walking tours to Ireland Reads Day and sunset strolls by the sea, there’s a lovely mix of movement, learning, and connection happening around the city.

Here’s what’s on:

New Beginnings 2026 – Beginner Hike Series: Glenasmole to Bohernabreena Reservoir
Saturday, Feb 28 | 9:30am – 12pm

If you’ve been meaning to get into hiking but didn’t know where to start, this is it.

A gentle 6km, zero-elevation walk led by Dublin Mountains Partnership Volunteer Rangers. Plenty of stop-offs, stories about Bohernabreena Reservoir, and teas/coffees back at Glenasmole Community Centre afterwards.

Public transport friendly (SD3 bus from Tallaght Luas is timed perfectly).
Easy pace. No dogs. Waterproof boots essential.

Leon Diop – Ireland Reads Day
Balbriggan Library | Saturday, 3pm – 4pm

Leon Diop — author, podcast host, co-founder of Black and Irish, and Obama Foundation European Leader, joins Balbriggan Library to discuss his memoir Mixed Up: An Irish Boy's Journey to Belonging.

Expect an honest, powerful conversation about identity, belonging, and the work still to do around racism in Ireland.

Open to all. A brilliant Ireland Reads Day event.

Saturday Sunset Walk for Women – Dún Laoghaire
Saturday | 4pm – 6:30pm

Meet at Dún Laoghaire DART station, stroll the East Pier, quick stop at dlr LexIcon, and finish in a sea-view café-pub to watch the sunset together.

Low-pressure, social, and solo-friendly.

If you enjoy Dublin Buzz and find these roundups useful, you can support the work over on Buy Me a Coffee.

It helps cover the time spent digging out events, keeping things up to date, and making sure the good stuff stays free and easy to find. No pressure at all, just a simple way to back the project if it’s been helpful to you.

Walking Tour of Dublin: History, People & Revolutionaries
Friday | 10:30am | St Stephen’s Green

A guided walking tour through Dublin’s revolutionary past — but with a modern lens. Feminist history, LGBTQ+ revolutionaries, and the stories that shaped modern Ireland.

Smaller groups, relaxed pace, genuinely engaging history (not the dry textbook kind).

Hugh Lane Sunday Concert Series: Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble – Peaceline Perspectives
Sunday, March 1 | 1pm – 2pm | Abbey Presbyterian Church

A powerful concert featuring contemporary works shaped by Northern Irish heritage. Music interwoven with voices and soundscapes inspired by Belfast’s Peaceline.

If you’re into contemporary classical or want something reflective and moving for your Sunday afternoon — this is a beautiful option.

Whether it’s hills, history, literature or live music, this weekend has a little something for every mood.

As always, if you go to something from this list, tell me how it was. I love hearing what you end up at.

And if this mail landed in your inbox and you thought, “someone else would love this” forward it on. Let’s keep building a city full of people who actually show up.

I’ve published a longer form of guide with things that are always on and free to do, read the extended free to do in Dublin guide now
