We’re officially out of the wettest July on record, and starting what is sure to be an August to match :( Last weekend, I got a golden ticket to one of the best games I’ve watched all year, the All Ireland Football Final! I was there to see Dublin lift Sam!

We’ve rounded up five cool things happening this week in Dublin for Free! It’s another busy weekend, with plenty of family friendly activities especially before the kids are back in school! However, if you’re a fan of Republic of Loose, Mik Pyro’s new band are laying down the funk in whelans!
This week we are covering solely Free events! We really love getting into the best cultural events and not just live music!
Farmleigh Family Fun Day
Sunday August 6th - 11am - 5pm - Farmleigh House, Phoenix Park
Families are invited to join the festivities at Farmleigh House in Phoenix Park for a delightful, literary-filled day. Attendees can listen to author Erika McGann, witness illustrator Clive McFarland's creative process, and try their hand at drawing.
The event features interactive sessions by author Shane Hegarty and yoga with The Aquatic Yogi Paul Donnelly. Participants can explore a scavenger hunt led by Aga Grandowicz and discover new books at the Children's Books Ireland Book Clinic. Music workshops, dance performances, and various drop-in activities promise non-stop entertainment.

Dublin Blues, Roots & Brass Festival 2023

Get ready to groove to the magic of Dublin's highly anticipated FREE live music festival! The Dublin Blues, Roots & Brass Festival returns to Whelan's on the August Bank Holiday Weekend, running from Thursday 3rd to Sunday 6th August.
Prepare to be captivated by an exceptional lineup featuring internationally acclaimed artists such as Mary Stokes Band, Mik Pyro and his Dublin Blues Cartel, and Grainne Duffy, among others. With over 20 acts performing on 2 stages across 4 days, this groovy festival promises an unforgettable experience for blues, roots, and brass music aficionados.
Get down to Whelan's of Wexford St. for an extraordinary celebration of the Blues, Roots, and Brass music traditions. Spread the word and mark your calendars for this must-attend event for music enthusiasts of all ages!
The Oratory Tour
August 6th - 11am to 2pm - Dun Laoighre - Free
The Oratory in DĂşn Laoghaire is a hidden gem of Celtic revival art. This tiny building is home to some of the most spectacular artwork from the first half of 20th Century Ireland, all produced by Sister Concepta Lynch
The Tour Guide will open the door and admit group at tour start time. Oratory door will be closed when tour commences. Meet at the Library Road entrance, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, (entrance is beside the children’s playground on Library Road). A 3D virtual tour can be viewed here
The tour lasts 40 minutes, and there is space for 10 people on each of the four tours. Starting on the hour! You have to book this one and can be done so here > Book the Oratory tour now!
Summer in Dublin: Free Family Fun on Sundays
Sunday 6th - 1pm to 5pm - Capel Street - Free
Summer in Dublin will enliven the streets of the city centre, providing families with an array of free entertainment and activities while they shop, socialise, and immerse themselves in Dublin's unique cultural offerings. Each day, visitors can delight in local business stalls, face painting, engaging giant board games, enchanting costumed characters, arts and crafts, and live music courtesy of Dublin's FM104 radio broadcast.
All activities offered as part of Summer in Dublin are completely free of charge, ensuring that everyone can participate and enjoy the festivities. This Sunday’s event on Capel Street has a special outdoor movie!
Summer in Dublin aims to encourage families to explore and savour all that Dublin has to offer. With its rich cultural activities, excellent shopping options, and a wide array of culinary delights, Dublin city centre truly has something for everyone to enjoy.

Children’s History Workshop: Escape Room Challenge

With not long before the kids go back to school, the Richmond Barracks have this brilliant childrens event on this Friday! Alongside their programme of events for the community this summer!
Join Dublin’s Historian-in-Residence for Children Dervilia Roche for this interactive workshop. Solve the puzzles inspired by the history of Richmond Barracks, and see if your team can be the first to find their escape key.
This escape room is suitable for children aged 9 - 12 and their parents / guardians. It is nice that there is a team aspect to this, so the kids and not so little kids can get involved together!
