Christmas at the Castle
Now until the 19th - 12-9 - Dublin Castle
Found in the grounds of the historic Dublin Castle, this is Dublin’s only Bavarian style market. With wooden huts showcasing the finest of Irish craft designers. It is not long until you find a tasty treat that is synonymous Christmas markets across the globe.
Christmas in the Castle 2023 will open on the 6th – 19th December (inclusive) and it will run from 12 noon until 9pm. Dublin Castle have just announced that Christams in the Castle 2023 will be unticketed. Meaning you do not need to prebook! In previous years, it was free but you had to get a ticket which meant that many missed out.
At Christmas in the Castle there will be live music from local acts and maybe a couple of well-known performers. You can entertain the little ones on the vintage carousel ride while indulging in a glass of mulled craft cider from the open-air bar.
The State Apartments are also open during the market hours. Take some extra time to walk through history at the Castle. From century old paintings to historical furniture with a real story behind it, Dublin’s culture is alive and well even at peak festivity.
Merchy Christmas
The Grand Social, Saturday 16th December - Sunday 17th December
Merchy Christmas is back! A real-life merch market where all your favourite artists flog their wares directly to you, their fans.
Established during the Christmas lock-down in 2020, it was the brainwave of Conor Cusack (Saint Sister’s manager) and Saint Sister. Chatting about ways to create a personal connection with their listeners and thank them for their support over the difficult year, they had the idea of a communal merch stall mixed with a Christmas market. After reaching out to their pals like Lankum, Gilla Band, and Kojaque, it became clear that this was something lots of other artists wanted to be part of.
Merchy Christmas was born! Working with Keiron Black and the folks at The Grand Social (longstanding champions of the independent music community) they put together a two-day event across multiple floors, which was hugely successful. 2021 saw the market return in full force.
Entry is Free, but once again, amidst challenging restrictions, it succeeded in raising much needed funds for the artists, and for a truly important cause, Homelessness in Dublin. Suggested donation is €6
