5 Free Things to do in Dublin this weekend - 18th of October
The Doors are open!
Open House is back, and it finishes this weekend! After sampling some of the events at Open House last weekend, I am highlighting some of the best tours you can take part in, with this Access All Areas festival from the Irish Architect Foundation

Discover the rich history and stunning architecture of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral during a Ground Floor Guided Tour, exploring intricate details and captivating stories within this iconic landmark.
Recommended for children aged 5 upwards. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and please book a ticket for everyone attending.
Tivoli Square and The Iveagh Markets
Saturday 19th of Oct | 12 - 5 | Francis St
Site Specific is a collection of 16 short documentaries celebrating the architecture of Dublin commissioned by the Irish Architecture Foundation and produced by Dyehouse Films. The series includes The Iveagh Markets which provides a rare insight into the Liberties iconic indoor market and Brú Chaoimhín looks at the design philosophy of a healthcare facility built to deal with epidemics that ravaged Dublin city in the last 200 years.
There will be a photographic exhibition of the Iveagh Markets organised by Friends of the Iveagh Markets and at 4pm there will be guided walking tour around the outside of the Iveagh Markets, ‘From Tivoli Square to Lamb Alley’ conducted by Friends of the Iveagh Markets.
Drop in anytime between 12:00PM and 5:00PM. Films will run on a loop.
Traditional Singing Walking Tour
19th of Oct | 11:00 - 13:00 | Liberty Hall
A Traditional singing walking tour entitled ” Fall down Billy O’Shea” around the docks of old Dublin Port reflecting on the buildings and bridges old and new. The walk will start at Liberty Hall and complete a circuit including Butt Bridge, The Railway viaduct, The Custom House, Sean O’Casey Bridge, Samuel Beckett Bridge, The Famine Sculpture, The Jenny Johnson Famine Ship, National Convention Centre, City Quay Church, Dockers of Dublin, Monument to Merchant Seamen, Rosie Hackett Luas Bridge.
The singers will all be regulars who attend An Góilín traditional singing sessions at The Teacher’s Club on Friday nights throughout the year. The songs will cover the history of Dublin and its dockland and famine ships and the 1913 lockout and the title song a bawdy Dublin sea shanty.

The Lark Concert Hall
Sat & Sun 19th & 20th of Oct | Church St, Balbriggan
Drop in tours of the Lark Theatre. Campus and Stephen Foley Architects have collaborated on the making of The Lark Theatre, Irish Institute of Music and Song in Balbriggan, Dublin. The Lark is this year’s winner of the RIAI Public Choice Award voted the public’s favourite building.
The newly built Lark Theatre forms part of the Irish Institute of Music and Song campus and is located next to a three-storey protected Georgian House that provides accommodation for visiting artists and scholars. The concert hall was originally designed for chamber music which gives shape and volume to the space but also allows for a multitude of performance types including cinema, pantomime, and comedy.
Access will take in the lobby, Auditorium, Sound room, Lark 1, Lark 2 , and the balcony area, into Bedford house lobby, then the Square, The Pods, the Green Rooms, the Amphitheatre, the music studios, and the garden, & finally the Crann Ceol where tour ends.

19th of Oct | 10:00 - 16.30 | Tours every 30 mins
The tour begins at reception, where groups will be guided to the first floor, noting the unique architectural features before moving on through the Secretary General and Minister’s Office followed by the boardroom. The back stairs flooring is a distinctive terrazzo style which is a top quality finish for the back stairs area leading down to the Basement area. On leaving the building, visitors can cross the road to get a full view of the building complete with sculptural reliefs and 5-story steel window.
